El Diablo Removed, New Dining Debuts, More Buildings Demolished at Six Flags Over Texas
Capital projects continue to move along at Six Flags Over Texas in rapid fashion. El Diablo, which had closed in November, was completely removed during our visit! Rancho de Pollo, along with one of the restrooms at front gate, are fully demolished. Dining transformations continue, starting with JB's Smokehouse BBQ. The restaurant has reopened with a refreshed menu, which we try out, and serving line. All American Cafe has temporarily closed as its dining experience transformation is under way and smaller stands appear to be turning into drink refill stations. Our visit didn't flow without camera and security woes, however.
El Diablo Finally Bids Farewell
El Diablo, which saw its last riders on November 3, has been fully removed from Six Flags Over Texas. Work began last week and, by Saturday, crews were pulling the final piece. All that primarily remains is some of the load/unload platform, which we expect to disappear in the near future. El Diablo was sold to another amusement destination in the northern United States with an announcement coming in the future.
More Building Demolitions
Near the park’s main entrance, some pathways have widened back up with fresh pavement and pavers. Pictured above, the end of the Guest Services/Flash Pass/Roller Coaster Coffee building has been capped off with bricks. The women’s restroom at front gate has also been completely demolished. Over in Spain, clearing continues with the full removal of Rancho de Pollo.
JB’s Smokehouse BBQ Reopens
JB’s Smokehouse BBQ has been reintroduced to guests with a fully refreshed serving line and menu. Offerings go above and beyond what was featured previously, including new protein options and additional sides and desserts. The refreshed serving line proved to be quick and efficient in our experience. The food quality was much better than JB’s previous menu. However, we found the chicken drumsticks to be over-seasoned and the macaroni and cheese lacking flavor. The smashed potatoes and cornbread muffins were great. Though a tad bit too fatty, the brisket had much more flavor than the previous iteration. We also tried the banana pudding (not pictured or in the video) and found it to be far above average. Since it was the restaurant’s second day of operation we are looking forward to trying it at a later date to see if the quality improves.
More Changes Coming to Dining
Several other dining projects continue at Six Flags Over Texas, including an aggressive refresh now in progress at All American Cafe. The former E.G. Sugarwater’s has fencing around it and a new structure is being prepped to go up near the exit of Aquaman: Power Wave. We expect to see multiple drink refill stations to pop up throughout the park with these likely being the first locations.
