Aquaman: Power Wave Debut Delayed Again to 2023
Today, Six Flags Over Texas announced that Aquaman: Power Wave, North America’s first PowerSplash attraction, will now be opening in spring of 2023. The park has stated that, “supply chain issues and labor shortages” are the root cause of this latest delay. Aquaman: Power Wave’s history has featured several twists and turns due to the worldwide pandemic and design changes. Originally set to open in 2020, the attraction will be the park’s fifteenth roller coaster.
Aquaman: Power Wave’s unique layout features 148-foot tall twin track towers, a massive final splash down and 700 total feet of track. Multiple forwards and backwards launches push ride vehicles to a top speed of 63 miles per hour. The attraction is taking over the area formerly occupied by Aquaman Splashdown. In March 2020, a worldwide pandemic struck, halting the world as we know it. Park closures happened across the globe, along with numerous supply chain issues. In July of 2020, Six Flags Over Texas announced that the opening of the new attraction would take place in 2021 instead.
To follow up this announcement, Six Flags Over Texas took the opportunity to re-design the existing structure. In December of 2020, the park announced that Aquaman: Power Wave would be delayed, yet again, to 2022. This time, however, it was for good reason. A turntable will be added to the attraction, which allows for higher rider throughput with the usage of a second ride vehicle.
