The Best Family-Friendly Rides & Attractions at Six Flags Over Texas (2019)

It is no secret that Six Flags Over Texas is home to high-thrill roller coasters and attractions. However, the park is also home to a wide array of attractions fit for younger kids and families alike. This edition of The Queue Blog looks at the best family-friendly rides and attractions based off of height requirement, thrill level, and the overall experience provided.

The Best Overall Family-Friendly Attractions

When thinking about the best overall attractions for families, we asked these questions: Can everyone in the family ride? Does the thrill level cater to the needs of the whole family? Does the ride create a unique memory or experience? The attractions listed below exceed these requirements!

Six Flags Railroad

Height Requirement: None
Thrill Level: Low

Perhaps the greatest all-around family attraction at Six Flags Over Texas is the Six Flags Railroad. Guests can board at either Texas Depot or Boomtown Depot and take a full, or half, circuit around the park. Riders see many of the park’s attractions during the route, learn interesting historical facts, and can use the train as a way to get from one side of the park to the other. The best part? The train has NO height requirement and is one of the most calming attractions in the park.

Chaparral Antique Cars

Height Requirement: None
Thrill Level: Low

The Chaparral Antique Cars are also another great attraction for younger guests and families. Seating up to four riders, this attraction gives guests a chance to pilot their own car around the track. Riders boarding the Chaparral Antique Cars are also experiencing the second-oldest attraction operating in the park, behind the Six Flags Railroad. The cars feature NO height requirement, though no single riders are permitted.

Oil Derrick

Height Requirement: None
Thrill Level: Low

Want to see what the park looks like from 300 feet in the air? Oil Derrick is the perfect attraction for this bird’s-eye view. Riders are able to board this attraction’s newly-refurbished elevator and catch an overhead view of the park’s rides and attractions. Guests can also see the park’s surroundings, including both Dallas and Fort Worth skylines. We rank the thrill level of this attraction low as long as you aren’t afraid of heights!

Silver Star Carousel

Height Requirement: 42 Inches (None with Adult)
Thrill Level: Low

The Silver Star Carousel is a historic antique carousel originally constructed in 1928. The carousel would eventually be moved to Six Flags Over Texas in 1963 and has delighted guests ever since. Though the attraction has a 42-inch height requirement, anyone can ride with an adult. Riders can choose from a hand-carved horse or take a ride on one of the carousel’s multiple chariots for a low-thrill experience.

Yosemite Sam & the Gold River Adventure

Height Requirement: None
Thrill Level: Low

Yosemite Sam & the Gold River Adventure is a classic dark ride attraction in which guests board a boat and take part in a journey with Looney Tunes characters. This journey, equipped with air conditioning and animatronics, takes guests on an adventure to keep from Yosemite Sam from stealing all the gold. Though the attraction is currently closed due to damage from a storm last year, the park has every intention of having the attraction back up and running in the near future!

Bugs Bunny Boomtown

Bugs Bunny Boomtown is an all-in-one stop for the younger thrill-seekers. Parents can take a small break in the shaded seating areas while children partake in the attractions listed below.

Wile E. Coyote’s Grand Canyon Blaster

Height Requirement: 42 Inches (36 Inches with Adult)

Wile E. Coyote’s Grand Canyon Blaster, reaching heights of 16 feet and speeds of 12 miles per hour, is the perfect beginner roller coaster for young thrill-seekers. This Looney Tunes-themed coaster is exciting enough for beginners but shouldn’t be too intense for those who are unsure of their preferred level of thrill. The height requirement is also only 36 inches with an adult.

Bugs Bunny Cloud Bouncer

Height Requirement: 42 Inches (None with Adult)

Bugs Bunny Cloud Bouncer is the perfect attraction for children who are just wanting to try out drop tower rides. Not ready for the intimidating heights of Superman: Tower of Power? This attraction is for you. There is also no height requirement when riding with an adult.

Marvin the Martian Space Rockets

Height Requirement: 36 Inches

This calm attraction will give riders a nice view of the surrounding Bugs Bunny Boomtown. Guests hop into their space vehicle on Marvin the Martian Space Rockets and spin around through the sky.

Speedy Gonzales’ Truckin’ Across America

Height Requirement: 36 Inches (None with Adult)

Right at the entrance to Bugs Bunny Boomtown stands Speedy Gonzales’ Truckin’ Across America. Younger guests have the opportunity to “drive” their own big rig through scenic areas. The ride also has no height requirement as long as the young rider is accompanied by an adult.

Sylvester & Tweety’s State Fairis Wheel

Height Requirement: 42 Inches (None with Adult)

Sylvester & Tweety’s State Fairis Wheel is the “tamest” attraction located in Bugs Bunny Boomtown. Riders board this ferris wheel and are given a peaceful view of the surrounding areas. The ride also features no height requirement when accompanied by an adult.

Taz Tornado Swings

Height Requirement: 42 Inches (None with Adult)

Taz Tornado Swings is the perfect attraction for those who aren’t quite ready to tackle the intensity of Gunslinger or the heights of Texas SkyScreamer. This is also a great ride, like many other Bugs Bunny Boomtown attractions, for parents to accompany their children on. The height requirement is 42 inches but none if accompanied by an adult.

Yosemite Sam’s Texas Tea Cups

Height Requirement: 36 Inches

Six Flags Over Texas has their very own teacups attraction designed specifically for younger guests. While many may enjoy the high-thrill experience of La Fiesta de Las Tazas, Yosemite Sam’s Texas Tea Cups is a great beginner attraction for those who would like to keep their stomach.

Daffy Duck Bucket Blasters

Height Requirement: 48 Inches (36 Inches with Adult)

We hope you are ready to get wet! Daffy Duck Bucket Blasters is a spinning attraction with one goal in mind: shoot your fellow riders and spectators with your water blaster. While this attraction does feature one of the taller rider height requirements in Bugs Bunny Boomtown, it is only 36 inches with an adult accompanying.

The Best Family-Friendly Flat & Water Rides

We’ve covered rides that feature the lowest thrill and minimal height requirements. What about family attractions that deliver a bit more? Listed below, in alphabetical order, are our top five flat rides and water ride attractions for families seeking that next level of excitement.

Caddo Lake Barge

Height Requirement: 42 Inches (None with Adult)
Thrill Level: Low

Caddo Lake Barge, located in the park’s Tower section, is a gentle spinning boat attraction. One of Six Flags’ more interactive rides, all rows face each other for a more personable experience. The ride’s spinning isn’t too intense and there is no height requirement as long as riders under 42 inches are accompanied by an adult.

Cloud Bouncer

Height Requirement: 42 Inches (None with Adult)
Thrill Level: Medium

Cloud Bouncer is a great attraction for the up-and-coming ride enthusiasts of the family. Guests have the ability to control the spinning of their own individual basket while getting a great view of the park. End up spinning too fast? Cloud Bouncer is much easier to slow down than a teacups ride. There is also no height requirement as long as guests under 42 inches are accompanied by an adult.

El Aserradero

Height Requirement: 42 Inches (None with Adult)
Thrill Level: Medium

Ready to ride a piece of history? El Aserradero, also known as the log ride, is the first-ever attraction of its kind in the world. Riders board a log-shaped boat and travel through a watery trough full of splashes, twists, and turns. The attraction reaches a height of 30 feet tall and features one final big drop, which is why it is ranked as a medium thrill. El Aserradero also has no height requirement as long as guests under 42 inches are accompanied by an adult. You may get wet!

El Sombrero

Height Requirement: 42 Inches (None with Adult)
Thrill Level: Low

Opened in 1965, El Sombrero is one of Six Flags Over Texas’ oldest and longest-operating attractions. This ride is unique in the sense that it is shaped like a giant sombrero hat. Two riders can fit in each “car,” which is located on the outside brim of the sombrero. One in motion, the ride moves much like a spinning top. El Sombrero also features no height requirement as long as guests who are under 42 inches are riding with an adult.

Justice League: Battle for Metropolis

Height Requirement: 42 Inches
Thrill Level: Medium

Justice League: Battle for Metropolis is an innovative dark ride attraction with 3-D effects and an interactive shooting feature. Guests board a ride vehicle, put on their 3-D glasses, and are quickly immersed in the world of Justice League. Your main goal: take down Lex Luthor and The Joker. Riders shoot various targets, Lex Bots, and DC Comics villains. The ride does include strobe effects and quick, but smooth, movements.

The Best Family-Friendly Roller Coasters

We couldn’t end this edition of The Queue Blog without talking about the most important category! Our listing below, arranged from lowest to highest thrill level, are the top four best family-friendly roller coasters featured at Six Flags Over Texas.

Runaway Mine Train

Height Requirement: 42 Inches
Thrill Level: Medium

Opened in 1966, Runaway Mine Train is the first-ever mine train roller coaster in the world. This roller coaster features speeds of 35 miles per hour and heights of 35 feet. What makes this ride unique? The largest drop occurs at the end of the journey, sending riders plunging through the Ace Hotel and Saloon!

La Vibora

Height Requirement: 42 Inches
Thrill Level: Medium

La Vibora, also known as bobsled, is one of the more unique roller coaster experiences found around the country. Guests board their very own bobsled and travel through the steel trough. While La Vibora features no huge drops, there are many swift twists and turns throughout the ride’s layout.

Pandemonium

Height Requirement: 47 Inches (42 Inches with Adult)
Thrill Level: Medium

Pandemonium, a steel spinning coaster, is next up on our list. The amount of spinning depends on weight distribution. This guarantees that no two rides are exactly the same. Each car holds four riders with the rows facing inward. What does this mean? You get to experience everyone’s emotions throughout the ride. Pandemonium also features swift turns, medium-sized drops, and top speeds of 31 miles per hour.

Judge Roy Scream

Height Requirement: 42 Inches
Thrill Level: Medium

Judge Roy Scream takes the last spot on our line-up of family-friendly roller coasters. This classic attraction stands as the only wooden coaster located at Six Flags Over Texas. Riders experience a bit of air time on the coaster’s numerous hills. What is unique about the ride? It is located “outside” the main park layout! We consider Judge Roy Scream the most intense coaster from this family-friendly selection.

Six Flags Over Texas is mainly advertised as a thrill capital due to record-breaking coasters with intense and staggering elements. As you can see, however, there are plenty of great options for families and younger thrill-seekers to enjoy. We would even consider Six Flags Over Texas one of the more family-friendly parks in the entire Six Flags chain. Looking for more information about these attractions?
